UK Employers Race to Submit Skilled Worker Visa Applications Ahead of Cost Surge

With immigration rule changes looming in April 2024, UK employers are scrambling to file skilled worker visa applications. Proposed alterations by the UK government are expected to increase hiring costs for overseas personnel, prompting companies to expedite hiring plans and renew existing visas for current staff.

According to a Financial Times report, immigration lawyers note a rush among clients to submit applications before the anticipated cost surge.

Home Secretary James Cleverly’s announcement of a minimum salary rise from £26,200 to £38,700 in April adds to employers’ concerns, especially in sectors like hospitality and manufacturing. Despite claims of delays, the Home Office asserts that all certificate of sponsorship applications meeting requirements are processed within published timelines.
