Thus, Spain Student Visa allows students to pursue their education in Spain for more than 3 months. EU and Swiss students can travel to Spain without a visa. While non-EU/EEA and non-swiss students are required to get a visa (any of the explained below) for their study program depending on the duration of the completion.

Types of Spain Study Visas

There are several types of Spain student visas for international students interested in studying in Spain, depending on the program’s duration and nationality.  

Documents Checklist for Spain Student Visa

The set of documents required for student visa application are as follows:

  • Visa Application Form: two copies of the complete visa application form

  • Two biometric photos: photos should be identical and taken within the last three months and follow the Schengen visa photo requirements.

  • A valid passport: A passport valid until the end of your stay, not older than 10 years, and with at least two blank pages.

  • Documents proving the purpose of stay: 

    • Study: A letter of acceptance from an educational institution in Spain mentioning the duration of stay.
    • Research: An official letter of admission from a research or training center.
    • Non-labor practices: a contract signed by the applicant and a public or private body.
    • Volunteer services: Agreement letter between the applicant and the organization in charge of the program.
  • Proof of accommodation: a letter issued by the academic institution stating the applicant’s accommodation can serve as proof.

  • Travel Medical insurance: it is mandatory to purchase travel medical insurance in the applicant’s home country. When applying for a short stay the medical visa should:

      • cover at least €30,000 for medical emergencies or in case of death.
      • be valid for other Schengen member countries. 
      • be valid for the entire duration of the applicant’s stay in Europe.
  • Proof of financial sources: submit three months’ bank statements, scholarships, or documents proving that the applicant has paid for the studies or is covered by any organization. Moreover, if sponsors are parents or legal guardians they are required to sign a notarized agreement stating their intention to do so. Also, submit parents’ bank statements for the last two months.

Application Process in Home Country

  • You have secured admission to an accredited educational institution or college.

  • Collect the required documents

  • Book an appointment with a Spanish embassy or consulate, visa application center, or a third-party visa application center authorized by Spain for visa submission.

  • Make a visa appointment and attend the interview

  • Pay the application process fee which is different for different nationalities. 

    •  USA citizens: €141
    •  Canadian citizens: €83
    •  Other nationals: €80
  • Approval time: usually takes about a month.

Application Process in Spain

  • After arriving in Spain apply for a Student residence card (TIE or Foreigner Identity Card) within 30 days by visiting the nearest Immigration Department branch or local police station in Spain

  • Submit documents such as a letter of residency, a letter of admission, a passport, an ID, and recent photographs.

  • After submitting the required documents get a student card which would be valid for one year.

Note:

A student residence card is required only for students whose duration of stay is more than six months.
