Canada Suspends New Study Permit Applications Processing, Introduces New Requirement

Effective January 22, 2024, Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has halted processing new study permit applications for undergraduates, college, and long-term language students. The suspension remains until a new “provincial attestation” process is established by provincial and territorial governments.
However, exemptions apply for K-12, master’s, and doctoral students. Short-term language students (up to six months) can proceed with their plans. Provinces and territories will now have allocated quotas for study permit applications in 2024, with ongoing discussions to finalize distribution among Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs).
