Switzerland Student Visa Application Procedure

You can apply for a Swiss student visa once you receive a letter of acceptance from a Swiss educational institution.

Note:

If the application form and all documents are not in French, German, or English, you will need certified translations.

Once you have submitted your application for a Swiss student visa, it will be sent by the Swiss representation in your country to the appropriate cantonal migration office in Switzerland. Upon approval by the cantonal immigration office, the Consulate General of Switzerland will issue your visa.

After Receiving the Swiss Student Visa

Registering your arrival at your Residents Registration Office in Switzerland within 14 days of your arrival is mandatory. Additionally, you will need to visit the cantonal migration office where you will be living to obtain your residence permit.

This applies to nationals who are exempt from a Swiss long-stay visa as well. Remember to comply with these regulations to avoid any inconvenience.

Residence Permit with Swiss Student Visa

As a student, you will require a B permit for residence. The processing time for a B permit may take up to eight weeks. During this duration, you will receive an attestation that will allow you to open a Swiss bank account, but leaving the country won’t be permitted. Your B permit will be in the form of a biometric card.

Can I work with a Swiss Student Visa?

International students can work part-time up to 15 hours a week during the semester and full-time during holidays. Non-EU/EFTA students are eligible to start working after completing 6 months of their studies.
