Lithuania Student Visa Options

For European students, the visa requirements are exempted, while studying in Lithuania. However, if you want to stay longer or your study program lasts more than three months, you must obtain a certificate from the Lithuanian Ministry of the Interior.

If you are an international student (non-European) you must also get a Visa D and a temporary residence permit. 

National Visa (D)

It is applicable if your study program lasts for up to one year.

Temporary Residence Permit

It is applicable if your study program lasts longer than a year.

How to Get a Lithuania Student Visa?

  • Get acceptance from a Lithuanian educational institution and pay the required fees to the university.

  • Contact the nearest Lithuanian Embassy or Consulate and book a visa appointment.

  • Download and fill out the Visa Application Form with all the relevant information.

  • Before your appointment, prepare all the necessary documents needed for your visa application and prepare a translation of the documents (if needed).

  • Attend the visa appointment at the Embassy, submit your documents, and pay the application fee.

  • Wait for the Embassy’s decision and register online for a temporary residence permit through the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS).

  • Provide additional documents to the embassy of your home country, if needed.

Note:

Lithuania Student visa processing takes two weeks to two months to complete. A temporary residence permit can take up to four months through the regular procedure.

The valid health insurance for European nationals is a European Health Insurance Card while non-European international students should contact one of the insurance companies on the Lithuanian Insurers Association (LDA).
