Netherland Student Visa: Requirements for Pakistani Students in 2024

Introduction

If you wish to study in the Netherlands, you must get an acceptance letter from a Dutch educational institution. Depending on your nationality, you may require a Dutch student visa. European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and Swiss students are exempt from obtaining a Netherland student visa. However, international students from non-EU/EEA countries are obligated to obtain a Netherlands student visa and residence permit.

Note:

If you are a citizen of EU/EEA or Switzerland and plan to study the Netherlands for more than three months, you will only need to register with the local Dutch authorities.

Netherland Student Visa Application Process

Once you receive an acceptance letter from an accredited university in the Netherlands, the process of obtaining a student visa will begin. If you are a Pakistani student, your hosting university in the Netherlands will apply for a Netherland student visa and resident permit on your behalf through the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND). The processing for the MVV (Long Stay Visa) permission will take up to 3 months, so you should expect to receive it after that period.

After your university’s request for your student visa and resident permit is approved, you will need to make an appointment at the Netherlands Embassy or Consulate located in your country. As a student applying for a study visa in the Netherlands, you will need to apply for an MVV visa. During your visit, the Embassy will take your biometric information, such as fingerprints, and extra identification, along with pictures. They will also inform you about the requirements for the visa and call you in for an interview during the visa process.

Netherlands Student Visa Validity

The Student visa lasts as long as the duration of the study program. If a student wants to prepare themselves before their course, they can apply for a one-year residency. After completing their studies, they can apply for an orientation permit which allows them to stay in the Netherlands for a year to search for a job.

It is important to note that you must achieve at least 50% of the necessary credits each academic year to remain in good standing. Failure to do so may result in the revocation of your student visa.

Benefits of the Netherlands Student Visa

  • Compared to other popular study destinations, the cost of living in the Netherlands is low.

  • The Netherlands is a multilingual country, and universities mostly offer programs in English.

  • Additionally, you can travel and explore within the 26 countries that make up the Schengen Area without any additional visas or permits.

  • Students are allowed to stay in the country for an additional year after completing their degree program to look for a job, without having to apply for a work permit.

  • Moreover, students are allowed to work part-time for a maximum of 16 hours per week throughout the year.
